Rengastien Loisto – business center that meets energy efficiency requirements

In Kaarina, right next to the Archipelago Ring Road, there is a business center that shines with its energy efficiency. Rengastien Loisto has been designed and built from the ground up as a model example of energy efficiency. The building’s energy solutions were designed by nolla_E.

The business center houses the Liedon lihakauppa store, whose products require refrigeration in both summer heat and winter cold. Large refrigeration spaces are typically challenging from an energy efficiency perspective, as they usually consume a lot of energy. However, Rengastien Loisto has been designed with energy solutions that minimize the overall energy consumption, including refrigeration needs.

“We have been involved from the early planning stages of the property, allowing us to make the structural solutions as energy-efficient as possible. Additionally, in Rengastien Loisto, we utilize energy piles to obtain the necessary cooling from the ground during the summer, and in winter, these energy piles provide heat to the entire building,” says nolla_E’s CEO Nikolas Salomaa.

The estimated annual energy consumption reduced significantly

Prior to nolla_E’s involvement, the building’s planned technical systems would have consumed 263,000 kWh of energy annually. Through nolla_E’s optimization, the property’s energy consumption was significantly reduced, resulting in an annual consumption estimate of 58,000 kWh. This low consumption has also allowed for minimizing electricity bills for the tenants, which is quite beneficial for the businesses operating in the business center. In addition to the meat shop, the business center also houses, among other things, a children’s clothing store, a beauty salon, and office spaces.

“We wanted to build a business center that meets the future energy efficiency requirements. With energy efficiency optimization, we aimed for significant energy savings because we want Rengastien Loisto to be an example of responsible property development and management,” says private real estate investor Peter Solin, who was involved in the construction of Rengastien Loisto.

Rengastien Loisto was completed in 2016. According to monitoring, the actual annual energy consumption of the property has even fallen below the estimated annual consumption estimate, which was already significantly low. Last year, the business center consumed only 41,000 kWh of electricity, which is remarkably low considering the intended use of the property.
