nolla_E expands to the Czech Republic – A new market opens significant opportunities

Energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions are rapidly evolving in the Czech market, and since the beginning of 2024, nolla_E has been actively contributing to this development. The expansion was not initially planned, but interest emerged naturally when local experts became enthusiastic about nolla_E’s solution. Soon, it became evident that the interest was mutual.
“At first, we wondered whether we could achieve the same results in the Czech Republic as we have in other countries—Finland, Sweden, and Norway. However, it was great to see that we can be just as competitive in the Czech market. The situation there is similar to many other countries: there are no local players who can offer a solution like ours,” says nolla_E’s CEO, Nikolas Salomaa.
nolla_E Czech was established as a startup company based on networking activities of H2020 project GeoUS – Geothermal Energy in Special Underground Structures, where a need for a new approach of energy efficiency assessment was identified. nolla_E Czech aims to build a young expert team to bring innovations in the field of energy efficiency to the Czech and Middle European market.
Characteristics of the Czech Market
Energy optimization in the Czech Republic has gained momentum due to both national and EU policies aimed at reducing CO₂ emissions and improving energy efficiency on a broader scale. In the past, energy in the country was very affordable, but since the start of the war in Ukraine, costs have risen significantly. At the same time, the local energy efficiency infrastructure is still in a developmental phase, providing nolla_E with a significant opportunity.
In the Czech Republic, energy is expensive, but wage levels are considerably lower than in Finland. This means that service production costs are lower, even though the software and solutions remain the same in every country where nolla_E operates. Additionally, the Czech Republic is a significantly larger market than Finland, and in particular, property values in Prague are higher than in Helsinki. The demand for energy efficiency is growing rapidly, and nolla_E’s expertise is precisely aligned with this need.
nolla_E’s high-quality software as the foundation
The Czech nolla_E team consists of three PhD experts in their respective fields. Jiri Koziorek is an expert in control systems and electrical engineering, while Nada Rapantova and Pavel Pospisil specialize in geothermal energy, hydrogeology, and renewable energy.
nolla_E’s operations are based on its software, which enables efficient scalability and consistent quality across different markets. “Our operations are built on software, making expansion seamless. We do not require a lot of manual work, and we can easily replicate our model in other countries,” Salomaa explains.
The Czech team has collaborated with nolla_E’s Finnish experts on an energy optimization project for a large property in Prague. The property owner had already implemented several energy projects in the past, but achieving an A-level energy rating was not previously possible with local service providers.
Future prospects
In the future, nolla_E aims to expand further into Central European markets, with the Czech Republic serving as an excellent launchpad for neighboring countries. Slovakia is already part of the discussions, and expansion in the region is a natural next step.
